Aqualife

Bringing the pool to life

Aqualife is a system of graceful robotic animals that inhabit swimming pools. The animals mimic behavior and actively chase or flee from you. This gives the user the opportunity to come up with endless ways to play and discover.

Apart from making swimming more fun Aqualife also adds to the scenery. Its silicone body lights up making for a beautiful scene. Just imagine a swarm of them gliding through the water by night! Auqalife will bring the swimming pool to life!

“How to enhance the experience of open play in the swimming pool?”

The aesthetic prototype has long tails which graciously flow through the water. Its body is made out of semi-translucent silicone which diffuses the light beautifully and makes the robot watertight. The bright lights inside light the pool up and bring it to life.

The working prototype used for user-testing and interaction design has three motors to control all degrees of movement underwater. The wings minimize unwanted roll. The body is 3D printed making it watertight. The micro-controller and batteries are inside the body. The next iteration for this prototype would include buoyancy control and external sensors.
