Programmable woollen sweater
Olann is a high quality woollen sweater that can change its pattern and can even have slowly moving patterns. Patterns can be uploaded to the sweater via USB. The electronics are detachable and the sweater is washable.
The patterns are generated by the use of thermo-chromic paint. Underneath the paint a matrix of conductive yarn is sown into the sweater. The matrix allows for heating, and therefore changing the colour, on specific points.
“How can we make fashion more durable and sustainable?”
Synthetic fabrics have made clothing much cheaper, but also more dispensable.
Olann is versatile and durable so you do not have to buy new clothes as often.
Olann contains a matrix of conductive yarn with higher density squares to create the ‘heat-pixels’.
Electronics are attached and detached with push buttons to make the sweater washable.
Patterns can be uploaded to the micro-controller through a USB connection. The heat-pixels are controlled using relay switches.
Thermo-chromic paint changes colour at a certain temperature. The paint in the prototype becomes translucent when heated. The wool insulates the body from the heat generated by the ‘heat-pixels’
